Gloomy Clouds And Mind

It was such a gloomy day yesterday.

“Gloomy clouds and mind”

Different patterns of thoughts present themselves in mind just like different patterns of clouds present themselves in the sky. Some of these thoughts that enter the mind are like gloomy clouds. They steal the brightness and stillness of the mind. Gloomy thoughts such as hatred, fear, discourage, hopelessness, anger, tiredness and insecurities.

When we get such negative thoughts, we sometimes keep feeding them with more similar negative thoughts that results in expanding the negativity and making ourselves even more frustrated, depressed and anxious. This can keep continuing for hours.

What a waste of time and energy?

Pause! Next time you catch yourself lost with a troubled thought, ask yourself,

“Does this thought really serve my life?”

“Is it positive?”

“Does it benefit my purpose?”

“Is it about something i can control?”

“What is the best thing i can do over this matter?”

“How should i shift this thought into a productive, positive thought?”

These questions may help to understand the real nature of the gloomy thought and make it easier to positively respond towards it.

On the other hand, it’s absolutely normal to get such gloomy thoughts time to time. All of us face that. What’s crucial is, not letting gloomy thoughts control the mind.

And when such gloomy, negative and unproductive thoughts are cleaned off from the mind, it ultimately makes the life more brighter, clearer and colorful, just like the warm, soft and wide beautiful sky.

    1. Agree! It takes some great practice to be able to observe the gloomy thoughts at the very first place. Then only we can eliminate the gloomy thoughts as they arrive.

    As I always like to say, we are the master of our minds. And you rightly stated – β€œWhat’s crucial is, not letting the gloomy thoughts control the mind.” People who easily get affected or directly influenced by the things happening around them often tend to lead a gloomy, unsatisfied life. And as you say, with a burden of negativity.

  2. We must remember who we essentially are is like the sky, open and expansive, not affected by anything that appears within us. We experience bad thoughts but we aren’t bad, we experience good thoughts yet we aren’t good, we just are.
    Anything we can observe can’t be us so we shouldn’t let things affect us too deeply.

    1. Really glad it helped you 😊 And yes putting it into action is way more complicated and difficult than putting it into words, it requires mindfulness and continuous practice to observe the thoughts as they enter the mind.

  3. Negativity amplifies negativity. It’s easy to be sucked into that trap where the cycle keeps churning away without ceasing. It’s powerful to stop and just look around. And really question how much control we ultimately have. When we really think about it, it’s not much. Control is just a manifestation of resistance and, as is said, what we resist…persists. ✌🏼

  4. This post is very true. Personally I have a hard time keeping a positive mind when it’s a gloomy day. But with time it’s getting better and I try to look forward to good times in the rainy weather (such as sleeping :P) or curling up with a good book, or enjoying a hot cup of tea if it rains. Sometimes it’s the little things that help so much! Thanks for the post! πŸ™‚
